It is an exciting year for Council Grove High School basketball as alumnus Tyler Sisson steps into his first season as head coach of the Braves. The team opens its regular season at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, at Royal Valley, marking the beginning of a new chapter for a program that holds deep personal meaning for Sisson.
The Council Grove High School cheer and dance programs closed out an extraordinary weekend at the KSHSAA State Spirit Championships, bringing home both a state championship and a state runner-up title. Under the leadership of Coach Keeley Reddick, the Bravettes captured the 3A State Dance Championship, while the Council Grove Cheer team earned 3A State Cheer Runner-Up, marking the program’s highest finish in school history.
Loren Eugene Peterson, age 89, of Andover, Kansas, passed to his heavenly home on Thursday, November 20, 2025. He was born in Wilsey, Kansas on November 3, 1936, to John L. Peterson and Naomi (Stover) Peterson.
The 2025 Flint Hills All-League 11-Man Football Team was released this week, and Council Grove athletes earned recognition across nearly every position group. Quarterback Luke Stewart was named Second Team. At running back, Blaise French received Second Team honors. In the receiving corps, Mason Samuels was selected to the First Team, while Grady Kepley and Sy’ied Smith-Jenkins were named to the Second Team. Reid Buttrey earned Second Team recognition as an offensive utility player.
