Nearly a year has passed since the death of Frank Jay Buchman on December 13, 2024, yet his voice, his stories, and his passion continue to resonate across Kansas. This fall, his legacy was recognized anew when the Boot Hill Museum’s Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame posthumously inducted him as the 2025 Cowboy Historian, an honor his widow Margaret Mary Buchman accepted on his behalf during the November 8 ceremony in Dodge City.

USD 417’s JAG-K program helps prepare for life after high school

USD 417’s new extracurricular program, Jobs for America’s Graduates– Kansas (JAG-K), was the focus of Wednesday’s Council Grove Rotary meeting, where project director Dani Sisson introduced the initiative and brought three students, representing the 21 students currently enrolled. This is the first year USD 417 has offered the nationally recognized program, which aims to help students overcome barriers, identify career paths aligned with their strengths, and prepare for successful futures after graduation.

Farm Bill has been extended one year

The federal funding package that reopened the government includes a one-year extension of key 2018 Farm Bill programs, many of which expired on September 30 or were set to lapse by year’s end. While the extension prevents immediate disruptions for farmers and ranchers, agricultural groups say the stop-gap measure falls short of the long-term stability producers need.
