More Than A Chef

More Than A Chef

Nathan Adams has been working as the head chef for Morris County Assisted Living since 2020, and after years of working in kitchens in a variety of restaurants including cafes and upscale eateries, Nathan says that it is his work in Assisted Living that has been the most rewarding part of his career. If you ask around, the residents, their families, and the employees will tell you that he is more than a chef. There is no doubt that his skills in the kitchen make him easy to love (who doesn’t love a great meal?) His varied meal plans and madeto- order breakfasts are a big hit with the residents, but it is his love for the people that make him a real MVP. He takes the time to learn what foods the residents like and don’t like and gives them choices on the menu with his famous Country Fried Steak being the most popular request. He wants them to feel like this is home and homecooked food is a sure way to make the living situation feel more like family. The residents get to enjoy family- style dining and if you are only ordering toast and coffee for breakfast, you can rest assured that Chef Nathan is going to be asking you to consider some oatmeal or eggs. The health of his residents is a high priority for him and Nathan says, “I get to come to work and provide for Grandmas and Grandpas, that’s awesome!” Nathan’s day is filled with planning meals for the week, ordering the food and supplies for the menu, and maintaining a clean kitchen, but his co-workers say that he also keeps busy visiting with residents between meals and that he always has a smile for everyone. Laverne Young, the facility director, says that Nathan is always willing to jump in and lend a hand when the staff is busy. “Nathan brings a lot of experience into our facility that most facilities don’t have and he takes great pride in his work at MCAL and also in his volunteer work in the community.” Nathan Adams truly is more than a chef to this community!
