ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — An environmental group is suing U.S. wildlife managers, saying they have failed to protect a rare grouse found in parts of the Midwest that include one of the country’s most prolific areas for oil and gas development.
A ceremony will be held on October 28, in the Geary County Courthouse at 11 a.m., in honor of recently retired Chief Judge Michael Powers.
There are many Halloween festivities this weekend but one of the most unusual and entertaining ones scheduled is a tour of Greenwood Cemetery, sponsored by the Morris County Historical Society. Council Grove personalities from the past will be present near their graves. They will introduce themselves and share information about their lives and experiences in Council Grove.
Wednesday, October 26, Lindsey Patnode, owner of Flowers by Lindsey, celebrates her first anniversary in the floral business. In an announcement made by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will receive a portion of more than $66.7 million in matching grants to be distributed across 16 states and Guam in support of imperiled species. The grant dollars are made possible by the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund – grants that contribute millions annually to support implementing state and territorial programs that conserve and recover federally listed and at-risk species on non-federal lands.
