TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas’ school board suspended the state’s top public school administrator Friday over an offensive public comment about Native Americans, rejecting the resignation he submitted after the governor and indigenous leaders demanded it.
The Council Grove High School Braves Wrestling team competed at the KSHSAA 321-A State Wrestling Tournament held on Friday and Saturday at Hays. “While we didn’t earn any medals and we would have liked to wrestle better at the state tournament, I was still very proud of our guys,” said Coach Jay Doornbos.

Jolie Ziegler (left) and Hayvin Thornhill competed at the Girls 4A-1A State Wrestling Tournament at Salina on Wednesday and Thursday. Ziegler finished in fourth place on the day in the 170 lb. weight class. At 115 lbs., Thornhill would take a loss to Madison Adkins of Santa Fe Trail, but pick up a win by decision over Sabrina Todd of Norton in the consolation round to advance to the semi-finals on Thursday. Thornhill would lose by decision to Piper Robinson of Holton. Congratulations on an awesome season!
