Local USD 417 students were among 638 students who were in attendance at the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) Fall Conference was at Kansas State University October 4.
The Council Grove High School Lady Braves struggled against their competitors in Saturday volleyball tournament play, hosted by Council Grove. The team lost the four matches they played. Scores were CGHS vs Abilene 4-25, 14-25, CGHS vs Santa Fe Trail 19-25, 20-25, CGHS vs Clearwater 14-25, 17-25 and CGHS vs Jefferson West 16-25, 1625.

The Council Grove Fire Department is teaming up with State Farm and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign -- “Cooking Safety Starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.” This year’s campaign, which runs Oct. 8-14, works to educate families about simple but important steps they can take to keep themselves and others safe. NFPA quote: “Cooking fires are the leading cause of U.S. home fires and home fire injuries. This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign works to highlight when and where cooking fires happen most often, along with simple ways to minimize those risks,” said Lorraine Carli, VP of Outreach and Advocacy Council Grove Fire Department and local State Farm Agent Steve Crichton encourage all residents to cook with caution. In support of those efforts, Agent Crichton recently donated a Fire Prevention Week kit to the fire department, which includes home fire safety and prevention activities and information for children and adults.
