At the Tuesday meeting of the Morris County Commissioners meeting, Lisa Wainwright, Janon Johnson and Derek Schrader with the Morris County Fair Board presented a report to the commissioners. An appropriation request for the 2025 budget was made in the amount of $27,500.00, which is the same amount as last year’s request. The request will be considered during the county’s budgeting process. The lights in the fair building are beginning to fail. It is suspected that the lights that currently remain, were original to the building. The Fair Board has plans to retrofit the light ballasts and install LED lighting. The Commissioners approved a payment of $5,000 to the Fair Board to assist in the lighting project. Funds will be paid from the Capital Improvement Fund. Noxious Weed and Waste Management Director Travis Schweger gave a report on the Noxious Weed and Waste Management departments. Discussion was held regarding the management of the transfer station’s metal scrap pile. Extreme Scrappers from Dwight, currently manage the transfer station’s scrap pile. The county is reimbursed a percentage of the money made from the scrap sales. A formal agreement/contract will need to be drafted and approved by the commissioners.
