Council Grove Republican reader Kelley Judd alerted us to a new fiction book that is based on life in Council Grove. The name of the book is Lila’s Journey, written by Jane Coletti Perry. It is available in paperback or on Kindle. The 287page book was published on May 19, 2024.
Phyllis Bettles is retiring from TCT after 21 years. I have talked to Phyllis via phone many times and always mistakenly thought she sat at a desk on W. Main Street in Council Grove. She cared for customers like she was present wherever you were. Since TCT is holding Bettles’ retirement celebration in Abilene on Friday, June 14, I imagine a lot of people from the many counties TCT serves feel the same way about Phyllis. She is an amazing employee who will be missed by many.
The Braves 13U baseball team won the 3&2s Legends Series in Lenexa this weekend. The team played the Midwest Braves in the championship game and won 7-1.
Wilsey Rural High School alumni meeting was held at the Wilsey Christian Church Wolgast Fellowship Room on Sunday, May 26 with 71 alumni and guests in attendance. The school closed in 1968 to merge with USD 417.
The monthly USD 417 Board of Education meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, June 10 at the District Office, 17 Wood St., Council Grove.
