The USD 417 Board of Education met Monday night at the District Office. President Terry Powell was absent, so Vice President Jamie Johnson conducted the meeting.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars of Herington, and the Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1281, invites the public to their 17th Annual Remembrance of 9-11-2001 Walk to be held on September 11, at the Herington Father Padilla Memorial Park starting at 5 p.m. A prayer will be given at 6 p.m. in remembrance of those who have given their lives and for those who continue to put themselves in harm’s way so that we may have the freedoms we enjoy. Following the prayer the Color Guard will lead the first lap around the pond. You can walk one lap, or as many as you wish, or up until 8 p.m.
TOPEKA (WIBW) - Both K-State and KU football have new spots in the national rankings.
Maxton Villalobos, of Council Grove, was the sole winner of Week 1’s Pigskin Pick ‘Em Football contest by correctly picking 14 out of 17 contests. Normally participants’ scores are lower at the first of the season than later in the year when contestants have a chance to see the different teams perform. That is not true this year. 9 contestants scored in the 12, 13 and 14 range, which means they only missed 3, 4, or 5 games out of 17. Over 25 contestants competed in the contest launch.
