PRESENT STUDENTS AMERICAN FLAGS Pat Schneider and Colleen Anderson, members of the Council Oak Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, presented area second grade students American Flags and holders recently as part of a Veterans Day observance. Flags were also presented to Chase County Elementary School by other DAR members.
Students at Council Grove Junior/ Senior High teamed up with community members last week for a handson project called Kids Feeding Kids. Deb Andres, Family and Consumer Science Agent for K-State Extension wrote the grant that paid for the project and student groups HOSA-Future Health Professionals, FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, and Jag-K provided the “student power” to get the project done.
Veterans Day honors the millions of men and women who have sacrificed much to serve in the United States military. Veterans Day is commemorated each year on November 11 because it was that day in 1918 when an armistice was reached between combatants in World War I, which estimates suggest claimed the lives of as many as 22 million people.
I thought I was only joking last week when I told the farmer my grain cart skills were in demand, but then I ended up running grain cart for someone else. So maybe I really am a pro... though “available” might be the more accurate word.
