Kansas Day started in 1877 in Paola, when a group of schoolchildren decided they wanted to learn more about the state’s history and geography. From there, it grew into the celebration we know today.

Pastor Chris Carlson, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Council Grove, was a recent guest at the Council Grove Rotary Club. As Liaison and Community Resource Director of CORE Community Alta Vista, he discussed CORE Communities, a comprehensive poverty reduction program aimed at breaking the cycle of generational poverty.
