Frederick Phillips American Legion Post 121 has been an active presence in Council Grove since 1921. Operating under the Legion’s national motto, “For God and Country,” the post is part of the nation’s largest veteran organization and continues its mission of service to veterans, their families, and the community.
John Steinkuehler, of Council Grove, was the sole winner of the Week 10 Council Grove Republican Pigskin Pick ’Em Football Contest, correctly guessing 15 out of 17 matchups. Steinkuehler will receive a $25 gift certificate, redeemable at any of the contest sponsors.
Council Grove’s own Cami San-Romani, owner of Cami’s Cake Co., made her national television debut Sunday night on the Food Network’s new baking competition, Sweet Empire: Winter Wars.
The Council Grove Area Foundation (CGAF) will host its annual Match Day event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday November 12, 2025, at the Territory Ballroom, 119 W Main Street, Council Grove.
Few outside Council Grove expected the Braves to hang tough with the second-ranked Nemaha Central Thunder in Friday night’s Class 2A regional championship. But those who made the trip saw a determined Council Grove squad that refused to back down, playing physical, disciplined football and proving they belonged among Kansas’s best.
