Recount clarifies voter intent: McDonald certified as Mayor

A detailed recount of the Council Grove mayoral race—conducted at the request of candidate Ryan McDonald—reversed the initial tie reported on November 10 and confirmed McDonald as the winner by one vote. The Morris County Election Board met Thursday to review and certify the recount results. The explanation of the process and the findings were presented primarily by Chelsey Schmidt, Morris County Clerk and Election Officer. Also present in official capacities were County Commissioners and Election Board members Wayne Kohler, Dave Fox, and Jim Barber, along with County Counselor William Kasse-baum.

TO STUDY IN AUSTRALIA Grace

TO STUDY IN AUSTRALIA Grace Bolieu, a student at Council Grove Junior Senior High School, has been accepted to study music at the Australian Institute of Music beginning in the fall of 2026. Although the acceptance is an exceptional opportunity and a significant honor, the Council Grove Republican has also learned that the path to attending will come with substantial financial requirements, including passports and airfare for Grace and her parents, visa costs, and documentation showing she has a full year of living expenses secured before entering the country. Discussion with Sen. Argabright and Representative Butler

Senator Michael Argabright and Representative Nate Butler spent Sunday afternoon in Council Grove meeting with constituents, answering questions, and outlining several issues expected to be prominent in the upcoming legislative session. Discussion was wide-ranging, covering energy, taxation, local control, public transportation, and constituent communication. Sen. Argabright addressed most of the questions during the time I was present at the come-and-go event.”
