Samantha “Sammie” McDonald, daughter of Ryan and Amanda McDonald of Council Grove, had a piece of her art selected to be on display at the Shawnee County Public Library during the months of February and March. The art show was put on by the Kansas Art Education Association and was honoring Youth Art Month with an exhibit. Samantha is a 6th grader at Council Grove Elementary School.
Local outdoorsman and communicator Phil Taunton is promoting two scholarship opportunities designed for Kansas youth with a passion for the outdoors and an interest in pursuing wildlife or nature-based careers.
The USD 417 Board of Education met Monday, April 14, 2025, for its regular monthly meeting. The board in a nearly four-hour meeting, covered a full agenda that included personnel decisions, early enrollment updates, policy proposals, and the evaluation of future facility needs.
Mike Seymour Sr. won the annual scavenger-type Easter contest and netted $100 in gift certificates to use at the contest sponsors. After code words were located at local businesses, forms were returned to the Council Grove Republican where correct forms were entered in a drawing that Seymour won.
