Wiletta Kay Lewis, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, at the age of 59.
May 22, 1939 — March 8, 2026 Helen Janice Briggs passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 8, 2026. She had recently suffered a severe stroke and was transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment. Due to the extent of the stroke, Helen was placed on hospice care and later resided at Diversicare Nursing Home in Council Grove, Kansas, where she received compassionate and loving care until her passing.
On March 15, 2026, Richard Lee Schwerdtfeger (Rick), Council Grove, KS, peacefully passed from this world and into Heaven to worship at the feet of Our Awesome God. Rick was born in El Dorado, KS on May 1,1951, to Albert and Velma Schwerdtfeger who preceded him in death. Rick is survived by his siblings, Sam Schwerdtfeger (Nina) Andover, KS; Edie Pennington Ellsworth, KS; Carol Frazee (Ralph) Ulysses, KS; Jody Eves (Greg) Salina, KS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. He was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Rene Pennington. Rick is also survived by his wife Debra (Debi), his children and grandchildren. Rick and Debi (Kreger) were married in Ulysses, KS in April 1971. They were blessed with two children, Angela Schwerdtfeger, Council Grove, KS; Bryan Schwerdtfeger (Sara), Emporia, KS; and two grandchildren Elizabeth Schwerdtfeger (Tommy Secord Jr.) and Maxwell Schwerdtfeger. His family brought him much joy and happiness.
Michael “Mike” Herbert Callison, 65, Kansas City, formerly of Council Grove, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026.
Carolyn (Judd) Felton was born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 4, 1946, to Charlie and Helen Judd. They moved to California, where she grew up and graduated from Carlmont High School in Belmont. She then graduated from Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree in social studies and later earned additional teaching and education credentials.
Mary Ann Wendel’s life began as Camden County Missouri’s first birth of the year on January 1, 1946. She was born to Don and Wilda Hill. She spent the first two years of her life in Illinois until being adopted by her mother’s parents, Arthur and Cordia Huber who from then on became “Momma and Daddy”. Mary Ann grew up in the Ozark Hills of Macks Creek, Missouri. She was the youngest of seven siblings and attended school in Macks Creek until she graduated in 1963. Later that year she enrolled in a nursing program at Drury College in Springfield, Missouri. After receiving a two-year degree from Drury, she met and married Wayne Wendel. Together they raised four children Douglas, Dawn, Daniel and David.
Delma Jean Boyer joined her Savior peacefully on March 5, 2026 in Council Grove, Kansas. She was born Delma Jean Comp on Christmas Day in 1925 southwest of White City, KS, in the Red Top community. She grew up on the farm of her parents, J. Howard and Marie Henry Comp, along with her two sisters, Doreen and Myra. She began her education in a one-room schoolhouse at Red Top, and graduated Valedictorian of White City High School in 1943. After taking normal training during high school, she was hired at 17 years old as a schoolteacher in Wilsey, KS, where she taught fourth through sixth grades.
Phyllis Irene Waugh of White City, KS passed way surrounded by family on March 5th, 2026 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born on August 19, 1943, on the family farm North of Eldon, Iowa to Rudolph Herman Osing and Della Marie Dalbey Osing. She was the 3rd of 4 sisters, Norma Jean Davisson, Margaret Louise Blade, and Ilene Osing.
Timothy Garrett “Tim”, age 67, was born during a blizzard on February 3, 1959 to Charles and Mary Lou (Wilson) Garrett. He passed away at Stormont Vail Hospital on March 5, 2026.
C. Eugene McCreath, a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, in Manhattan, Kansas, at the age of 84. Born on August 12, 1941, in Junction City, Kansas, Eugene’s journey was marked by a profound commitment to family, hard work, and a passion for the land.
