Shareen Lea Johnson, 77, of Council Grove, Kansas entered peacefully into the loving arms of our heavenly Father on February 12, 2025. She was born on March 4, 1947, at the old Morris County Hospital in Council Grove, Kansas to Frankie Erwin Prather and Verta Lucille (Smith) Prather.
Ernest Milton “Pete” Petry, 86 of Council Grove (Formerly of Lawrence) died on Saturday, March 1, 2025, after surgery to repair a broken hip and a stroke that he suffered shortly thereafter.
Kermit Vernon (Vern) Starkey, age 85, of rural Cottonwood Falls, KS, died peacefully Wednesday, February 27, 2025, at his daughter’s home, Paula (Starkey) Boese and Marc in Burrton, Ks.
Kristin Lea Terronez, 43, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.
Simon Paul Asebedo, age 67, passed away peacefully 4:17 p.m. Sunday, February 9th at Morris County Hospital in Council Grove, Kansas, surrounded by family.
Larry Bryan Banks passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025 at his residence. He was born on November 2, 1944, to Clyde George and Ruby Elizabeth Banks in Dwight, Kansas. Larry joined the US Navy at the age of 17. He later married Janet Ann Bray in August 1965 and had two children, Troy Bryan and Christy Ann.
Laverne Lois Falk, age 98, passed away on February 11, 2025, at the Council Grove Assisted Living. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and enduring faith in Christ that will be cherished by her family and friends for generations to Laverne was born December 23, 1926, on the family farm north of McFarland, Kansas. She was one of six daughters born to Henry and Emma (Weith) Mathies. Laverne received the rite of Holy Baptism as an infant, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland. She later confirmed her faith in her Lord and Savior by rite of confirmation on June 30,1940 at Trinity. Laverne’s faith guided her throughout her life, and her love for the Lord could be seen in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Laverne met her future husband, Harold Falk at a joint Lutheran youth meeting (Walther League), between Alta Vista and McFarland. The two were married on June 2, 1946 at a noon ceremony after church. They made their home on the Falk family farm near Alta Vista. Together, they raised six children, Deloris, Linda, Mary, Melvin, Alan, and Kristie, in a home filled with love, and an emphasis on the impoitance of family. In 1995, they moved to Council Grove after retiring and selling the family farm. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage before Harold’s passing in 2011.
