Sheila Colleen Baughn

Sheila Colleen Baughn, 61, of Alta Vista, Kansas passed away peacefully on November 17, 2021. Sheila was born January 21,1960, in Council Grove, KS. She was the oldest daughter of Chester and Opal (Watson) Slawson.

Sheila married Dale Baughn and from that union they had one son Dustin. They later divorced and remained good friends. She graduated from Council Grove and later attended Emporia State University. She worked in restaurants and even co-owned some. Sheila loved to cook/bake and enjoyed teaching others to do so. Pies were her specialty. She loved to mushroom hunt and fish when she was able. The thing she loved most was crafting: leather working, quilting, sewing, bead art, wreath making, and loved to play Bingo.

Sheila met the love of her life Steve Dunton 17 years ago and together they built a beautiful life.

She leaves behind Steve of the home; son Dustin (Melissa) Baughn, of Wichita; 5 grandchildren: Jayden, Marcus, Elijha, Kacelin and Skylin, all of Wichita; special niece Missy Lathrop, of Alta Vista, that she considered to be the daughter she never had; sisters Patty Havins (Mike) of Alta Vista, Amy Wendelken (Greg) of Waterville. Also surviving are nieces: Amanda (Jarrod) Mendum of South Korea, Maranda (Daniel) Rose of West Virgina, Abbie (Brenton) Hohlfeld of GA; nephews Matt (Heidi) Lange of Alta Vista, Lucas (Delaney) and Lane Wendelken, of Wakefield; uncle Jimmy (Joyce) Watson; aunts Verna Watson, Mary Dains and Darlene Herpich and her beloved dog Prince; a host of great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents Chester and Opal Slawson; infant brother Chester Jr. and sister Phyllis Kerns.

A Celebration of life is planned for 2:00 pm, December 11, 2021, at Sawyer Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will follow.
