Many people knew her as Lucille. Lucille was born on August 25, 1940, in Council Grove, Kansas to Lee and Zelma Gatewood. Growing up she moved around a lot due to the fact her father worked in the oil fields. She was the oldest of her siblings. Lucille graduated in 1959 at Douglass High School near Wichita, KS.
Lucille met her husband, LeRoy TenEyck on a blind date. They were married on February 2, 1962. To this union, they had 3 children: Raymond, Connie, and Terry.
She worked at Buchman’s Grocery, baby-sat for kids in her home, then she worked for the USD 417 School District at the Wilsey Elementary School for many years and some at Pizza Hut before retirement.
Lucille liked to make many things for other people. One year, she made crocheted afghan blankets for each of her nieces and nephews and several other people. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, embroidery and putting family recipe books together. But her name-to-fame hobby was making Christmas stockings and she became known as “”The Sock Lady””. Lucille had knitted over 400 Christmas stockings, and on each stocking, she included their birth year and their name knitted across the top. Her last project was making knitted ducks, called “poopducks” for the family reunion, and the finishing touches were going to be over the weekend, but sadly, it didn’t happen.
Lucille is survived by her husband LeRoy, her son Raymond, her daughter Connie, her son Terry & (Cindy), and her grandson Jake Ten-Eyck and by her brother, Daryl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings James, Ronnie, Iris and two infant brothers.
Lucille passed away on August 14, 2026, at Stormont Vail Hospital. She will be sadly missed.
