Lisa Owen

Lisa Owen, age 63, a longtime resident of Wilsey passed away peacefully on September 5, 2023 at her family home. She was blessed to have many visitors and family around her in her final days. She will forever remain in our hearts, an embodiment of love, kindness, and nurturing.

Lisa was born September 30, 1959, to Walter and Sandra D. Perrin, while living in Kansas.

She attended Rogers High School in Rogers, AR.

She first saw her husband, Dillis, when she was 13 years old. He was coming to the house to see her older brother and rode up on a white stallion. Then a few years later, her car had broken down while she was out with a friend and her friend’s boyfriend and Dill came to fix it. He saw her high heels in the back seat and said “I bet that girl is good looking, I want to date her”. They were married in Council Grove, KS on September 24, 1978.

She was a cherished wife, devoted mother and grandma, loving daughter and sister, and true friend. She passed away at the age of 63 after a life well-lived, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever resonate in our hearts. Her warmth and selflessness defined her character, and her unwavering dedication to those she held dear was truly unmatched. Lisa leaves behind a heartbroken family, including her husband Dillis of the home; Jennifer (Steven) Janzen, of Marion, KS; Zachary (Lori) Owen, of Delavan, KS; and her seven grandchildren Zayden, Lydia, Coy, Zeke, Eli, Andrew and Zoey. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and were always the topic of conversation with anyone she met or visited with.

Lisa’s passions were varied and abundant. A lover of literature, she delighted in the world of books and spent many contented hours as a librarian, sharing her knowledge and kindling a love for reading in the hearts of others. She also loved classic rock music and could often be found in the kitchen belting out lyrics or dancing with her husband, Dillis. Lisa treasured every conversation, and her love of talking on the phone served as a lifeline to those dear to her. Her reassuring presence and compassionate ear were always just a phone call away. Beyond her love for people, Lisa had a profound affection for animals. Her home was often a sanctuary for animals throughout the years. The sight of vibrant flowers and thriving plants brought her joy and served as a testament to her love for life and her appreciation for the simple pleasures found in nature. Over the years, many visitors would stay with Lisa and Dill, ranging from old friends to their children’s and grandchildren’s friends to strangers needing a place to stay. She always made sure that everyone was fed. No one ever left her house hungry. Her “snack bag” was always with her. It was a favorite for all children at any sports event she was attending for her grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed but never forgotten as she will forever be in our hearts and memories and her love will forever guide us.

Memorial contributions can be made to USD 408 Marion-Florence school district, USD 417 Morris County school district, USD 253 Emporia Public Schools in her name to pay unpaid student meal accounts or to the Elm Creek Township Library in Wilsey, KS.

A private burial at the home was done on September 6, 2023 with family and close friends. A celebration of life will be planned for later in the month at the family home.
