George Dean Venburg Dec. 22, 1935 – Oct. 6, 2022

George Dean Venburg, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away at the age of 86 on October 6, 2022 and entered into the Kingdom of God.

George was born on the family farm near White City, Kansas to George and Naomi (Holm) Venburg. He graduated from White City High School and attended Kansas State University. George married his high school sweetheart Emily Pagel in 1956 and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

He joined the US Department of Agriculture in 1955 and spent a 35year career in various field and administrative positions, working to control and eradicate livestock diseases. He and his family moved to Lincoln in 1973. After retiring from the USDA in 1991, George pursued woodworking as a hobby and a small business. He specialized in scroll saw woodcuts and showed his work at craft shows across the Midwest. People particularly cherished his crosses, Christmas ornaments and numerous plaques. He enjoyed helping others, including giving 14 gallons of blood. He and Emily traveled throughout the US, Europe and the Holy Land. They often traveled with their family, including their last trip – a river cruise across Europe. George enjoyed cheering for all Nebraska sports, and the KC Royals and Chiefs.

George was blessed with a strong Christian faith and was a long-time active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

George is survived by his wife Emily, son Greg Venburg and wife Vicki Smith, daughter Lori Miller and husband Steve, grandson Jon Miller and wife Kelly Bui, and granddaughter Christine Miller. He is also survived by his sister Diane Haywood, brother Don Venburg and wife Susan Venburg, and by 8 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln on Saturday, October 22 at 10:30 AM Visitation will be an hour before the service.

Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park on Monday, October 24 at 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George’s memory to: Faith Lutheran Church Building Fund, the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
