Floyd Elton Whiteman, 90, of Springfield, MO formerly of Mission, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021 after a short illness.
Floyd was born September 16, 1931 in Pawnee Rock, KS to Guy and Lena Boese-Whiteman. He graduated from Wilsey High School in Wilsey, KS in 1949. After High School, he went into the Air Force and served in Okinawa during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. After his service, he attended Emporia State Teacher’s College (now Emporia State University) and earned degrees in teaching and business as well as a master’s degree in accounting. From there he entered the employment world and did many things involving teaching and accounting over the next 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Lena Boese-Whiteman, three brothers, Forrest, Dale and Paul Whiteman and two sisters, Olive Heaton and Arveta Brosius.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of 62 years, two sons, Douglas Whiteman and his wife Susan of Saranac Lake, NY and Bradley Whiteman of Springfield, MO. Two grandsons, Aaron Whiteman of Beacon, NY and Brett Whiteman of Kissimmee, FL. One granddaughter, Allison Whiteman of Springfield, MO.
Floyd was an active member of Peery Street Church of God and Pittman Road Church of God in Kansas City and attended Restoration Church in Springfield, MO for the last five years. Floyd was an avid puzzler and literally finished a 2,000 piece puzzle right before he entered the hospital.
We are comforted by knowing that Floyd is no longer in pain and is safe in the arms of his Savior.
A Celebration of Life for Floyd will be at 12:00 pm Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Interment with full military honors will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm prior the service.
