Edward Lee Teghtmeyer
Edward Lee Teghtmeyer, 77, passed away gently at home, in the arms of family, on July 26, 2020. Ed was born January 27, 1943, in Ida County, Iowa, and grew up as a rural Iowa farm boy, the youngest of six children.
He graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1960. He attended Iowa State University as a member of the R.O.T.C program and competed on the ISU varsity Track & Field team. He graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1964 and was forever a devoted ISU alum. He served his U.S. Army term at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, and after his honorable discharge moved to Rock Island, Illinois. While there and mutually taking a math course at the R. I. Arsenal, he met his future bride Anne Blanford. They married in 1967 and together raised two daughters, Ed coaching their softball teams, taking them canoeing and fishing, and every summer driving them around the country to visit family, friends, and many national parks.
Ed worked in many civil engineering and public works capacities over the years, with job sites and homes located in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Wyoming, and many other states, wherever the job sent him. In 1979 he began a long career with Neosho Construction, based in Council Grove, Kansas. Later, he worked with R. D. Long Construction out of Kansas City, Missouri. He completed his working career as the Morris County Road and Bridges Supervisor for Morris County, Kansas, and retired in 2009.
After retirement, he and Anne moved to Lansing, Michigan to be near ‘the grandsons.’ Ed took pleasure in his vegetable garden, reading novels, the daily newspaper and its puzzles, their many kitty-cats, spending time with Anne, and, of course, ANY and ALL Iowa State University athletic games that were televised or streamed through the Internet!
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Leo Harold, Sr. and Hertha (Witte) Teghtmeyer of Arthur and Odebolt, Iowa, and siblings, Phyllis (Ken, dec.) Parker, Viola (Emmett Petersen, dec.; Roy, dec.) Nielsen, and Pauline (Robert, dec.) Feddersen. He is survived by his sister, Elaine (Dwayne, dec.) Bubke, and brother, Leo H. (Keo) Teghtmeyer, Jr., and dozens of loved nieces, nephews, and their families.
Ed will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, the love of his life, (Ellen) Anne (Blanford), his daughter, Dr. Lori (Michael) Coughlin, D.V.M. of Berwyn, Illinois, and his daughter, Suzanne Teghtmeyer, MLIS, grandsons Elliot and Leo of Lansing, Michigan.
A memorial service will take place at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Odebolt, Iowa, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations are truly appreciated and can be made to the Capital Area Humane Society of Lansing, Michigan or the Lansing Food Bank, Lansing, MI.
The family is being served by the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel in Lansing, MI. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.palmerbush.com.
