The Morris County Commissioner meeting was called to order on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 9 a.m. Commissioners David Fox, Wayne Kohler and Jim Barber were present. Bill Kassebaum, County Counselor, and Chelsey Schmidt, County Clerk, were present.
Mark Brooks and Sharmon Richardson, co-chairmen of the upcoming Santa Fe Trail Symposium, shared an inside look at preparations during their presentation to the Council Grove Rotary Club on Wednesday. Hosted by the Heart of the Flint Hills Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association, the symposium will take place September 20–27 in Council Grove and promises to be unlike any before it. The title of the event is called “Marking a road to Santa Fe: Set your sights on Sibley.”
Ken Riffel will step out of his postal delivery truck for the last time on Friday, August 28, 2025, closing a 29-year career with the U.S. Postal Service.
Well, we survived the first day and a half of going back to school. It already felt a little trying, but I know we’ll find our rhythm soon enough. I’m just not a huge fan of the school routine—there’s no time for quality moments in the morning, and evenings seem to fly by. That’s why it’s so important to me to make the most of the time we have before bed. Thankfully, I’m blessed to be at home when the kids arrive.
