Preservation work at Lower Fox Creek School House

A new roof has been installed on the historic Lower Fox Creek School House along K-177 near Strong City, part of the National Park Service’s continuing preservation of the property. The former one-room school, built in 1882, is federally owned and managed by the National Park Service as part of Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.

The school closed in 1946-47 and later returned to ranch ownership. The National Park Trust purchased the property in 1994, and ownership was transferred to the National Park Service in 2002. The recent roofing work has helped preserve another visible piece of Chase County history for future generations.
