For some time I have noticed that people are increasingly stating that events are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.—when in fact the events begin or end at noon. The sun reaches its highest point (its meridian) at noon. Times before noon are “a.m.” (ante-meridian); times after noon are “p.m.” (post-meridian).
