JH Braves Beat North Lyon County 8
Trailing by as many as early in the second quarter, the Council Grove Junior High Braves rallied to get within 4, with the score sitting at 18 - 14 at the half. The Junior High Braves decided it was time to have arguably their best half of basketball in the second half of their Flint Hills Junior League Tournament game in Osage City on Thursday night, which they won 34-32 over North Lyon County.
“The kids played hard and through adversity tonight,” said Coach Dustin San Romani. “We had some players step up and play well offensively. Wes Veh, Gavin Mills and Kolby Rose played hard on the offensive end and Jackson Comer gave us some big minutes defensively when we got in foul trouble late in the 3rd quarter and early in the 4th. I was extremely proud of all the kids effort and hope to maintain this through our final game on Saturday.”
The Braves rallied to score double digit points in both the 3rd and 4th quarter for the first time this season.
Wes Veh was the Braves leading scorer with 13 points, Mills followed with 7 and Rose with 6. Anthony Monihen chipped in with 5 points, Jaxson Buchman 2 and Kahle Jones finished with 1. The Braves shot 10 of 16 from the free throw line for 63%.
The Braves will take on Central Heights for 5th place at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, in Osage City to close out their season.
