FIRST MAN

-Buzz Aldrin steps onto the lunar surface on July 21, 1969, following the moon landing on July 20. Aldrin and Neil Armstrong spent approximately two hours outside the spacecraft and collected 47 and 1/2 pounds of lunar material to bring back to Earth. This week marks 50 years since the moon landing and the end of the space race, fulfilling the goal proposed by President John F. Kennedy in 1961: “before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth.”
