Parents are encouraged to help children recognize several poisonous plants that may be found in yards, wooded areas, ditches, fields, trails and along fence lines. Children should be taught never to touch, pick, smell, taste or make “bouquets” from plants they do not know.
The 2026 Washunga Days Car Show brought a variety of classic cars, trucks, motorcycles and specialty entries to Council Grove during the annual community celebration.

Also known as Freedom Day, Emancipation Day, and Jubilee Day, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln.
