Guardians of our past, builders of our future: Morris County Historical Society

(This year, we are honored to “treat” the Morris County Historical Society (MCHS) with an article recognizing their dedication and service to the community. Our annual Halloween tradition of donating 40% of the special ad revenue to MCHS received overwhelming support. As a result, the feature article appears here, with the ads of appreciation displayed on the back page. We invite you to take a moment to view those ads. Each one represents a local merchant’s public and financial thanks to MCHS for their continued efforts.)

Herington Hero award honors library director Shelly Wirtz

Home Health & Hospice of Dickinson County in Herington (HH&H), an affiliate of Memorial Health System in Abilene, has announced its newest Herington Hero Award recipient — Shelly Wirtz. The organization commends Wirtz for her outstanding service and dedication to the Herington community. Wirtz serves as the director and caretaker of one of Herington’s most valued institutions, the Herington Public Library, a Carnegie Library rich in history and community pride. Founded in the early 1900s by local citizens whose names appear on a plaque on the building’s façade, the library continues to thrive thanks to Wirtz’s leadership and commitment to preservation. Her efforts ensure that the library remains a welcoming place for learning and connection, honoring the vision of its founders.
