The Morris County Commissioner meeting was called to order on Tuesday, December 24th, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. Commissioners Jim Barber and Wayne Kohler were present. Bill Kassebaum, County Counselor, and Chelsey Schmidt, County Clerk, were present.
On October 31, 2024, Rayleigh Wittman, age 21 of Garnett, Kansas, was travelling eastbound on K4 when an opossum entered the roadway. Wittman attempted to swerve to miss the opossum, causing her to lose control and leave the roadway in her 2009 Chevy Impala.
Patti Essary, of Alta Vista, is the winner of Week 17 of the Council Grove Republican’s Pigskin Pick ‘Em football contest. Essary correctly guessed 14 of 16 contests. She will receive a $25 gift certificate redeemable at any of the contest’s sponsors.

Don Byram Yoder was born on December 23, 2024 at Morris County Hospital. His parents are Aaron and Mary Yoder of Alta Vista and his siblings are Elmer and Wallace. Grandparents are Harry and Melanie Byram of Council Grove and Janet and the late Steve Yoder of Bluffton, Ohio.
