Our sister in Christ, Joan Price, left this earth to be with the Lord on August 17th, 2026.
Joan was born on August 8th, 1938, to Harold and Hilda Sullivan (Warnecke). They lived a modest life in Mitchell, IL. Harold worked for a corporate gas company, and Hilda was a homemaker. Joan had two brothers, Harold Jr. and Jim Sullivan. Joan and her family attended the local Christian church, and she graduated from Granite City High School in 1955. Joan soon married James Garvatte, and they had three sons, Robert, Scott, and Marvin. Later, they also welcomed a daughter, Marla. Many years later, due to circumstances beyond her control, Joan left with her children to start a new life.
Years later, Joan met Howard Price, and she would always lovingly refer to him as “the love of her life.” They soon married and were blessed with a son that they named Howard Junior. Howard and Joan ran a bait and tackle business, and Joan was a seamstress for many years for a large chemical company based in Saint Louis, MO. Unfortunately, many years later, Joan found herself single again and decided to move to Las Vegas, where her brother Harold Sullivan Junior and wife Linda lived.
Now Joan found herself a little country bumpkin in a big city with bright lights, and she had fun working in the casinos and in grocery stores, meeting all kinds of people. She was in Las Vegas for 25-plus years.
After so many years in Las Vegas, Joan decided she wanted to rejoin her eldest son, Bob, in Council Grove, Kansas. By then, Joan had retired and enjoyed volunteering at the hospital, answering phones, and helping her new church family at Council Grove Christian Church with Sunday School and Awana. And of course, in any free time she could always be found busy in her garden and tending to her flowers or finishing a craft project.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Hilda; brother James Sullivan; husband Howard Price, Sr.; and son Robert Price.
Joan is survived by her children: Scott Price, Marvin Price, Marla Lunney, and Howard Price, Jr.; grandkids: Stacie, Stephanie, Christopher, Emily, Wendy and Zeke; great-grandchildren: Michael and Elizabeth; and nephew Joe Sullivan.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, August 29th at Council Grove Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Council Grove Christian Church and may be sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
