It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Helen Lydia Jensen, who departed from this world peacefully and comfortably in her sleep on August 20, 2026. Helen was born on August 10, 1943, in the small town of Bushong, Kansas, to her parents, Elmer and Ella Schlesener.
Helen was known for her kindness and generosity that touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, roles she cherished throughout her life. Preceded in death by her parents, sisters Geneva Shoup Wallace and Joyce Miller-Roever, and brother Keith Schlesener.
Helen leaves behind a family who will forever hold her memory close. Her brother, Eldon Schlesener, sons Bryce and Dale Jensen, her grandchildren Chelsea, April, Emily, Haley, Emma, Alyssa, and Josh, and her great-grandchildren Cayson, Gino, Beau, Frankie, and Adalee will continue to celebrate her life and legacy.
Helen shared a beautiful life with her husband, Raymond A. Jensen, whom she married on October 25, 1965, in Huntsville, Alabama. Their journey together was one of love and partnership, rooted in shared experiences and mutual respect and their connection only grew deeper when they joined the Wilsey church. They spent many hours enjoying fellowship with the community while teaching Sunday school or bible school or just helping with daily chores. They did this together and loved every moment.
Throughout Helen’s professional life, she demonstrated commitment and dedication, working at Boeing in both Huntsville and Seattle. She pursued her passion for health and wellness as a swim and fitness instructor in Renton, Washington. Helen enjoyed working with people and was very giving of her time and energy to others whether that was neighbors or teaching swim lessons at the local pool. An active member of the Wilsey Christian Church, Helen contributed her time and talents to her community, embodying the values of faith and service. Her involvement with the Council Grove Thrift Store reflected her generous nature and her commitment to helping others.
Helen’s love for life extended into her hobbies and interests. She found immense joy in gardening, cultivating beautiful flowers and bountiful vegetables. Her athleticism was evident in her love for walking her dogs and jogging, and she found pleasure in the simple act of riding her lawn mower. Known for her fondness for the color pink and things that were shiny and sparkling especially her shoes!
A service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held on August 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Wilsey Christian Church, located at 215 N 3rd St, Wilsey, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Helen’s honor to the Wilsey Christian Church. They may be sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
