He grew up on the family farm just east of Council Grove, where he learned the values of hard work, faith, and family that guided him throughout his life.

Carolyn Mae Wilson (Taylor) was born on November 23, 1940, and raised in Council Grove. She married her high school sweetheart, James Bryan Wilson, on June 8, 1958. Together they raised 4 children. Carolyn built her life around her family. She enjoyed their routine Sunday dinners until her final days. She built a career as a real estate agent, owning Carolyn Wilson Real Estate. She then joined the family business and became the office manager of Wilson Sales Inc.
