Susan Kay Grimmett
Susan Kay Grimmett passed away on the 25th day of September, 2022 in Wichita, KS.
Susan was born in Council Grove, KS to Virgil Leland Buchman and Verlee Verlene McDiffett of Alta Vista on 29th of August, 1956. She was a lifelong resident of the Council Grove and Alta Vista area. She graduated from Council Grove High School in 1974, Butler County Community College in 2001with Associate of Science, and Emporia State University in 2009 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education. She had worked various jobs to help support her family until she was able to attend ESU full time. Her family was very excited and proud when she graduated. She has worked at Council Grove Elementary School as a paraprofessional through the Flint Hills Education Cooperative through the Emporia school district since August 2018. She had a passion for education and working with children.
Susan married Richard Ivan Grimmett at the Church of Christ Christian Church on the 7th of June, 1974. They were married for 48 years this past June.
Susan enjoyed everything she could with her family and friends. She has a sizeable collection of bells, including some from every state she has visited. She also had many Precious Moments collectibles. She loved the Christmas holiday season as she was able to display her multiple nativity scene displays inside and out.
She was preceded in by both her parents, and two grandchildren, Ashley Danelle in 1999, and Nathaneal Ray in 2017.
She is survived by her husband Richard of the home; 2 children, Olen Harley Grimmett and wife Amber of Council Grove, Jennifer Verlee Grimmett of El Dorado; 4 grandchildren, BrieAnna Nichole Grimmett and fiancé Brandan of Manhattan, Kaitlynn June Ridder and husband Peter of Manhattan, Rylea Kaelynne Grimmett of Great Bend, William Ivan Grimmett of Council Grove, and Landen Maverick Ivan Grimmett-Smith of El Dorado. Siblings survived are brothers Frank Buchman and wife Deborah, Teddy Buchman and wife Janet, and Doug Buchman; sister Julie Cashman and husband Alan. She is also survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Service will take place at the Osage shelter in the Canning Creek Cove at Council Grove Reservoir the 2nd of October, 2022 at 4 pm. Participants are asked to bring a lawn chair as seated could be limited.
