Robert “Bob” William Nittler

Robert “Bob” William Nittler , 79, Council Grove, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Morris County Hospital. He was born on April 8, 1939, to Paul and Edith Nittler in Orlando, Oklahoma. Bob was the 5th of 7 children. He moved to Yates Center at a young age and received his education there, graduating from Yates Center High School in 1957. He went on to attend Clark’s Business College and later took various courses from other Kansas colleges. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Jean Purcell on February 4, 1961 in Yates Center, KS. They have three children, Richard Nittler of Council Grove, Bruce Nittler of Kim, Colorado, and Russell Nittler of Topeka. The couple began their life together in Topeka where he was the manager of a grain elevator, before moving on to Belleville, Kansas where he worked as feedlot manager. In 1969 the family moved to their farm south of white city where all 3 boys attended and graduated from White City schools. While in White City, Bob worked as a feedlot manager for Tri-County Feedlot as well as managed their small family farm. After the kids were grown and out of the home, Bob and Beverly moved to Council Grove, where they remain. Bob worked at Wilson Sales as a parts manager for many years and in the last few years you could find him in the parts department at Bolton Chrysler. Bob was an active member of the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was active in his community and was passionate about sports. Whether he was a coach or a fan, you could always find him at a ballgame. He loved to fish, hunt, and be outdoors. He was particularly passionate about his yard and his garden, and in later years you could often find him tinkering in his shop. Bob’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlight of his life and you could find him in the crowd at every event. Bob’s favorite title was grandpa. Whether you were related to him or not, chances are you thought of him as another grandpa. Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of the home; his 3 sons, Richard and wife Anita, Bruce and wife Kandi, and Russell; his sister Cora Mae and husband Don; his brother Glenn and wife Carolyn; his sister Sue; his 6 grandchildren; his 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Floyd, Betty, and Fred. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 25, from 6-7:30 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Friday, October 26, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Christy Alexander officiating. Both will be held at the Congregational Church in Council Grove. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Flint Hills Rebuilders in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846, so that they can help others in our community. Condolences may be left at www.zeinerfuneralhomes.com.
