Patricia Lou “Trish” Maxfield Johnson

Patricia Lou “Trish” Maxfield Johnson lost her battle with cancer on September 14, 2022. Trish was born November 11, 1946, in Emporia, Kansas, to Marvin Leonard and Mary Lou Ketteman Maxfield, the oldest of five children.

Trish attended Admire Elementary School, Northern Heights High School and Kansas State Teachers College. Trish married Patrick Lou Johnson August 29, 1964, in Emporia, KS. They had two children: Jeffrey and Debra.

In 1964, Trish resumed college classes, completing her BSE in Spring of 1979. She began a Master’s program in special education and taught an elementary special education class in Emporia Public Schools. With Master’s completed Trish began studying for a Specialist’s degree in School Psychology. She started fall 1986 in 501 Topeka Public Schools as a school psychologist.

Trish retired in 2011, to relax with Pat at their home on the Council Grove City Lake. Together, they loved traveling with friends and visiting their children and grandchildren. Trish also enjoyed playing bridge with friends.

She was an active member at First United Methodist Church in Emporia, adult Sunday School teacher, VBS youth teacher. Women’s Circle leader and Youth Group leader. In retirement an active member at Council Grove United Methodist Church as lay leader and two years working with God’s Kids. Trish was also a volunteer with CASA for several years and a High School mentor.

Trish was preceded by her parents. She is survived by her husband Pat Johnson; son, Jeffrey Johnson and wife Dawn, of CO; daughter Debra Fulton and husband Jerry, of TX; grandchildren: Steven and Breanna Day; sisters: Bonnie Sue Brank (CA), Rebecca Jo Skinner (Edward) and brothers: John Marvin (Lorna) and James Leonard.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 23, 2022, at Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church and sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
