Mildred Pauline (Banks) Brooks of Council Grove, KS, passed away March 30, 2019 at the age of 87 at Diversicare of Council Grove.
Mildred was born on a farm outside Wichita, KS on March 16, 1932 to Clyde and Rudy (Kellogg) Banks. She was the oldest of 6 children. Mildred married Percy (Pete) Spiker and had 3 children; Connie, Robert and Clyde. She later married Nelson (Tad) Brooks and had 2 children, Bruce and Tadley.
Mildred worked at Iowa Beef and as a caregiver for the sick and elderly. She owned a bar in Council Grove and two cafes; Your Way Café and The Barn Café in Dwight City. Mildred enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing, gardening, planting flowers and reading. She made the best hot dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and pickled beets. She loved to make quilts for all of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Mildred loved being with her family.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Nelson (Tad) Brooks, two brothers; George Banks and Carol Banks, her sister Cherish Anders, three sons; Bruce Brooks, Tadley Brooks and Robert Spiker, her grandson Justin Brooks and her great grandson Tadley Brooks.
Mildred is survived by her daughter Connie (Spiker) Green of North Carolina, her son Clyde Spiker of Council Grove, KS, daughterin-law April Brooks of Manhattan, KS, 2 brothers; Larry Banks of Council Grove, KS and Fred Banks of Manhattan, KS, 13 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and 23 greatgreat grand-children as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held on Sunday, April 7 at Zeiner Funeral Home in Council Grove from 12 to 2 pm. Burial will be at Four Mile Cemetery following the services.
