Marty Layton Dies Martha Marie
Martha Marie Layton, Council Grove, passed away December 15, 2018 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.
She was born January 15, 1941 in Council Grove, daughter of Gordie and Roma Roberts Smith. She attended Washington Grade School and Council Grove High School.
Marty married Bill Blosser in 1957. They were later divorced. She was later married to Carl Layton, December 26, 1968. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, stepmother Myra, and her sister Marianne Free.
Marty worked at the Morris County Hospital as a nurses’ aide, the Burger House, and also for several years at IGA. She also provided child care for several families. She was known for her quick wit, infectious smile, and an ornery streak. Marty was a good pianist, and played accompaniment for dance lessons as a teenager. She enjoyed the time she and Carl spent camping at the lake. She loved to cook, and it was a treat to be invited for chicken and noodles. She above all treasured her family, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Marty was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.
Marty is survived by her children, Bob Blosser and wife Corrine, Allen Blosser and wife Becky, Linda Korb, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Alice Adams and brother-in-law Mike. She leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church, with visitation following the services. A private inurnment will be held later. Memorial contributions may be made to the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church, or to a charity of choice.
