Hubert “Hubie” Crichton
Hubert “Hubie” Crichton, 83, Cottonwood Falls, died Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Morris County Hospital. The son of James M. and Alberta (Branaugh) Crichton, Hubert Duane, was born August 8, 1934 in Ravinia, SD. He graduated from Ravinia High School in 1952. He and Karen J. Finwall were married April 25, 1955 in Wagner, SD. He served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959 and was a member of the “Big Red One.” He worked as a foreman at IBP from 1969 until 1989 when he became the custodian for the Cottonwood Falls Grade School in USD #284. He retired from that position in 1999. Following his retirement, he spent many hours helping care for St. Anthony Cemetery and St. Anthony Catholic Church. His family was extremely important to him as was having a good work ethic; therefore, he taught them how to work. Hubert is survived by his wife, Karen of the home in Cottonwood Falls; two sons: David Crichton (Becky), Cottonwood Falls and Steve Crichton, Council Grove; four daughters: Barbara Davis (Mark), Strong City, Sandy Luder (Bill), Cottonwood Falls, Janet Kusinski (Dan), Chicago, IL, and Patricia DeJong (David), Ogden, UT; two brothers: Curt Crichton, Vermillion, SD and Larry Crichton (Karen), Maricopa, AZ; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings: Erma Zwartz, Mary Mueller, Bonnie Sorenson, James Crichton, Gerald Crichton, and Leslie Crichton. A visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m., tonight at the Brown-Bennett- Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. The celebration of life service will be Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Strong City. Burial will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.
