Funeral Dec. 3
Allan “Keith” Lee, formerly of White City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.
He was born July 15, 1931 in rural Jewel County, Kansas. Keith was the eldest of three sons of A. Kenneth and Cleo “Phillips” Lee. The family moved to a farm south of White City when Keith was 3. He attended rural schools and graduated from White City High School in 1949.
On Feb. 11, 1951 he married Jesse Joyce Macy. They were married at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Frank Parker at rural Parkerville, Kansas. To that union were born five sons, Daryl Wayne Lee, James Dean Lee, Daniel Allan Lee, Doyle Ross Lee and Douglas J. Lee. There was also a stillborn son, Dwight Keith Lee.
Keith lived in the White City area the rest of his life. Keith and Joyce helped manage a gas station and restaurant in Council Grove until the flood of 1951 washed it away. Keith then worked for Beech Aircraft in Herington, Kansas and General Motors in Kansas City, Kansas before starting a long career in the plumbing industry. He eventually started his own business, LEE Plumbing in White City. He downsized several times before his retirement in 2006.
Keith stayed busy in retirement taking many bus trips with the group from KTWU Sunflower Tours. The bus trips traveled Kansas and offered a relaxing and educational experience. Keith always came back with stories and interesting facts about the places, people and things he saw.
Keith started a tradition of having a family Thanksgiving dinner. It started at his home in White City. But as the family and guest list grew it was moved to the White City Community Building. The dinners ended when Keith entered the nursing home in Herington in 2015.
Keith is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Cleo Lee, his wife Jesse Joyce Lee, his brother Gary Lee, his sons Dwight Lee and James Lee and his grandson Donald “DJ” Lee.
He is survived by his brother Roger (Carol) Lee, Parsons, Kansas; sons Daryl (Marcia) Lee of White City, Daniel (Joyce) Lee of Halstead, Doyle (Babe) Lee of Coral Springs, Florida, Douglas (Julie) Lee of Halstead; grandchildren Matt Lee, Lori Lee, Kristi (Pat Thaete, Brian (Kellie) Lee, Anne (Peyton) Sessoms, Mary (Jeff) Lee-McDonald; and great-grandchildren Zachary Lee, Jada Lee, Madelyn Lee, Devin Lee, Madison Thaete, Keira Lee, Colin Lee, Ethan McDonald and Dylan McDonald.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday Dec. 3, 2018 at Zeiner Funeral Home in Council Grove. Pastor Lorenzo Jackson of Lighthouse Fellowship Church in Junction City will be conducting the service. Burial will be at the White City Cemetery, White City.
