E. Lynn Alvey, 90, of Herington, Colonel, U.S. Army, Retired, died Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Junction City. He was born on April 21, 1928, Catharpin, VA, the youngest son of four boys to James “J. W.” Sr. and R. Pearl (Sanders) Alvey. Committal Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 4, 2018, at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Herington, KS, Fr. Peter O’Donnell officiating, Full military honors by Fort Riley Honor Detail. The family will receive friend Wednesday, October 3rd, from 6:30- 8 p.m., at the Zeiner Funeral Home, Herington Chapel. He married Dorothy Ann Crimmins on December 27, 1956, in Arlington, VA, died on December 21, 1998; and she was an Army Captain, a nurse at Walter Reed Hospital. He is survived by a son E. “Rusty” Lynn Alvey, II (wife Sheri) of Herington, a brother F. “Hamp” Hampton Alvey (wife- Martha “Doodie”), and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his two (2) brothers: Jack Alvey, Jr., and Bob Alvey, Sr. Colonel Alvey graduated from Osbourn High School in Manassas, VA, with the class of 1945. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS Degree in Business Administration in 1950, and was an ROTC officer. Served in the Vietnam War as an Air Defense Artillery Officer, and received the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Burdick American Legion Post #147, and the Herington American Legion Post #12. He was a life member of the Virginia Tech Business Fraternity (Alpha Kappa Psi).
