Casey Sherwood Dies

Casey Ray Sherwood born November 26, 1992 to Daniel and Valerie Sherwood passed away November 2, 2019 in Council Grove, aged 26.

Casey was raised in Alta Vista, KS attending Prairie Heights School. He spent many years playing alongside his cousins at their grandparents and hearing the golden rule read by his grandmother. He attended high school in Council Grove where he met many lifelong friends.

He worked for Hold’em Fence Company for several years where he learned how to weld, pour bunks, and win slap bets. He made many memories as an over the road welder and built strong relationships with co-workers who became close friends. He took the knowledge he learned and moved careers as a MIG Welder at Caterpillar in Wamego. It was an achievement he was very proud of and of course he built friendships quickly as he was prone to do.

He loved Busch Light, shooting guns, motorcycles, loud music and spending time with his many friends. His biggest love however, was his wife Lynessa. Casey and Lynessa’s paths crossed three different times before officially meeting at a house party, he stole a kiss and from there they were inseparable. Life even tried to pull them apart, but their love was strong and they fought through it, coming back together stronger than ever. They were united in marriage on June 9, 2018. To hear Casey speak of Lynessa was to look love square in the eye. She was his world, his love, his sweetness. Casey lived life fast and loud. He had a passion for motorcycles and had recently gotten his “pride and joy” Harley, that could be heard from blocks away and sometimes at 3am, as he sat in the garage revving the engine just to hear it roar. If there were friends and cold beer Casey was there. He enjoyed country cruises and shooting doves off the wires. If he got a call asking to help drag a dead deer off the road, out the door he went. He took up hunting in the last year and spent countless hours with his brother and best friend scouting spots and talking about how to perfectly take down a big buck, which he did right under his brothers nose, and boy was he proud. He loved children and they flocked to him. Nothing made him laugh more than hearing a child say their first cussword.

To say he had a heart of gold is an understatement. He constantly was doing good deeds under the radar and if you caught him doing a good thing he shrugged it off because he never did it for affirmation.

Casey is going to leave a huge hole in his community. His friends and loved ones will always feel that hole, and how lucky we are to have been able to know him.

He was preceded in death by his sister Savannah Sherwood, and grandparents: James Wyatt, Harvey P. Myers, John Parks, and mother-inlaw Gwen Weaver.

Casey is survived by his beloved wife Lynessa; mother Valerie Sherwood; father and step-mother Daniel and Barb Sherwood; grandmother Margaret Wyatt; brothers Daniel Sherwood and wife Alica, Buck Sherwood and wife Amber, step brother Alex Mendoza; father-in-law Earl Weaver; brother-in-law Matthew Weaver; nephews Jaxon, Jeric, Linkin, Thorin; niece Sophia; aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
