Evelyn Belen Landez

Evelyn Belen Landez, 76, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, surrounded by family.

Evelyn was born December 23, 1949, in Iloilo City, Philippines, to Antonio Bansagan and Lucia Abelarde. She graduated from Iloilo High School in 1964 and studied dressmaking at Iloilo City College. A woman of profound faith and inner strength, she loved martial arts, tailoring, and music in her youth. While working near the U.S. Naval Base in Subic Bay, she met Petty Officer Roel Landez. They married on September 16, 1979.

In 1979, Evelyn moved to Texas, later relocating to Kansas in 1986, and settling in Council Grove in 2007. She proudly achieved U.S. Citizenship on July 20, 1990. Evelyn worked for 12 years at the Cottage House Hotel and retired from the USD 417 high school food service department in 2013, where she was legendary for ensuring no student went hungry.

Family was Evelyn’s ultimate joy. She was a devoted wife, mother, and a truly “Magical” Mema. She fiercely supported all her grandchildren’s diverse talents—whether cheering them on at state championships, listening to them sing beautifully, the national anthem or choir competitions, or proudly celebrating national poster contest wins at banquets. She also loved cooking her famous Adobo and testing her luck with lottery scratchers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Felix Sr. and Beatrice Landez; sister-in-law, Lupita Landez; brothers-in-law, Felix Landez Jr. and Mike Ellis; and nephews, Enrique and Raudel Herrera.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Roel Landez; daughters, Mililani and Michele; and her five cherished grandchildren, Kyana, Tayven, Kenley, Cohen, and Keira.

A Mass at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Council Grove will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 10AM with a Celebration of Life to follow at the church Pariah Hall located at 300 Spencer Street, Council Grove, KS.

In lieu of flowers, your presence and support are the greatest gifts we could ask for. If you still wish to give, the family kindly requests that any memorial contributions be made out to Roel Landez and sent care of Sawyer Chapel at 137 N. Union St, Council Grove, KS 66846 to help cover funeral expenses. Any remaining funds will be dedicated to establishing a lasting memorial in Evelyns honor, celebrating her lifelong faith at St. Rose Church.
