Edith Mae (Garrett) Peterson

Edith Mae (Garrett) Peterson, 93, died Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Diversicare of Council Grove.

Edith was born March 29, 1931 in Council Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Pete) Peterson, her parents, Eleanor (Dorrell) Garrett and Allen Garrett, 6 sisters: Marjorie Deering, Lois Cox, Mildred Garrett, Pauline King, Dorothy Dozier, Evelyn Garrett and a brother, Allen Garrett Jr.

Edith is survived by 3 daughters, Susan Stratton, Lyndon, Dorothy Richter, Fort Collins, CO, and Cindy Cavalieri and husband Dan Cavalieri, Council Grove, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren 4 great, great grandchildren, and one sister Ethel Hastings and husband Alan Hastings, Herington.

Edith married Charles Aug. 14, 1949 and they lived in Aberdeen, Maryland while Charles was in the army until 1950 when they moved to Great Bend, KS. There they raised their family until 1972 and then Charles’ job took them to Aberdeen, Scotland until 1986 when they returned to Council Grove.

Edith’s caring spirit led her to home health care where she helped take care of many Council Grove residents. For many years she was also a much appreciated volunteer at the rest home. She will be sorely missed by many, but especially by her children and grandchildren.

Cremation is planned and graveside services will be held in late spring. She will be laid to rest with her husband Charles per their wishes in Greenwood Cemetery.
