Jerry Wayne Hayes
Jerry Wayne Hayes, 65, was found deceased in his Dunlap home July 17. The son of Glenda (Lee) and Ernest Lee Hayes, he was born September 25, 1958, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Emporia.
Jerry graduated from Council Grove High School in 1976 after surviving brain surgery for a cerebral hemorrhage. He began his career in plumbing and heating/cooling installation and service at Ingmire Plumbing and Heating in Council Grove. He later worked for many years at Bob Crawford Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration in Emporia. He also worked at various times for Didde, Butcher-Peterson Heating and Cooling, Theel, and Iowa Beef.
Jerry enjoyed farming part time, living in the Flint Hills, and his cattle and beloved horses and dogs. Jerry was married and divorced twice.
He is survived by a son Jerred Helm and daughter Jessica Ensley as well as a brother Larry George Hayes and wife Betty of Emporia and three sisters: Deborah Roberts of Harveyville, Ginger Wessel of Emporia, and Becky Hayes Boober and partner Jack Swem of Rockport, Maine. He is fondly remembered for his sense of humor and teasing by his siblings, cousins, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers-inlaw: Richard Roberts of Harveyville, Glen Wessel of Emporia, and Guy Boober of Winterport, Maine.
At his request, there will be no funeral. A private family gathering will occur later.
