Graveside Service

Graveside services will be held at the Wilsev Cemetery Tuesday, May 10, at 2 p.m. for Evelyn Lee, 94, a former resident of Wilsey. She died December 1, 2021 in Loveland, Colorado, after a long battle with cancer.

Evelyn was born November 14, 1927. She married Maurice Lee on May 31, 1972. For some years, they lived in Leadville, Colorado, where she managed a small store while he worked at the molybdenum mine at Climax.

In the mid 1970s, they moved to Council Grove to be near Maurice’s parents. While Maurice worked for Neosho Construction, Evelyn enjoyed making crafts and selling them at special events throughout the state. After they moved to Wilsey, they operated a store and a contract post office from 1996 to 2003. In 2007, they moved to Loveland to be near Maurice’s sons.

Evelyn served on the Wilsey City Council and was a member of the Wilsey Lions Club and the Wilsey United Methodist Church. She also served in the U.S. Army.

Her great passion was genealogy. She traveled to many courthouses and cemeteries amassing information about the Lee, Smirl, and Evans families.

She is survived by her husband; son, Oren Hamilton; stepson Mike, Pat, and Tim Lee; and stepdaughter, Melody Miser.
