Kay Lorie (Sanford) Hight
Kay Lorie (Sanford) Hight, 73 of Council Grove, KS passed away Thursday, January 14, 2022 at the Morris County Hospital after a short battle with Covid.
Kay was born on August 25, 1948, in Council Grove, KS to Clifford Sanford and M. Bernice (Allen) Sanford. She spent her childhood growing up on the family farm outside of Wilsey, KS. Kay graduated from Wilsey High School in 1966. After graduating Kay attended one year of business college in Wichita, KS.
Kay married Vance L. Hight on July 29, 1967 on Altus Airforce base in Altus, OK where Vance was stationed in the Air Force. Kay spent most of her married life as a homemaker and periodically had several bookkeeping/teller type positions through the years. Kay and Vance spent a majority of their married life living in Council Grove, KS while raising their two children, Jason and Kara.
Kay was a pretty quiet person, but will definitely be remembered for her stubbornness which she so graciously passed on to her daughter and granddaughter (Ashlyn). In high school her favorite sport to play was basketball. In their younger years Kay and Vance enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with friends. Once grandkids came along she loved spending time going to all their activities.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws Millard and Doris Hight, son-in-law, Michael “Mike” Holmes, brothers-in-law Lance Hight and Eldon Sill.
Kay is survived by her husband Vance of the home, her son Jason (Shona) Hight, Admire, KS, daughter Kara (Hight) Holmes of St. George, KS, sisters Sherry (Walt) Dealy of Arlington, KS, Carolyn (Tim) Satterfied of Emporia, KS, sisters-in -law Rilla Sill (Lynn) of Manhattan, KS, Rosemary Hayes of Wichita, KS, brother-in-law Lyle (Jane) Hight of Abilene, KS, Grandchildren Jacob (Nellye) Hight of Council Grove, KS, Gabriel (Maddy) Hight of Council Grove, KS, Joshua Hight, Walela Hight, Kyla Hight, Josiah Hight, Isaiah Hight, Melaine Holmes of Manhattan, KS, Ashlyn Holmes, Bryton Holmes, one great-granddaughter Evelyn Hight and twelve nieces and nephews.
Kay wished to be cremated. Due to COVID a memorial/celebration of life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Council Grove, KS or cards may be sent to Vance Hight at 4 Ram Court, Council Grove, KS 66846.
