THE SOUNDS OF WASHUNGA DAYS

THE SOUNDS OF WASHUNGA DAYS

The Box Turtles have been stomping around the Midwest for many years, progressively making more and more noise along the way. They describe themselves as a group of guys trying to find as much fun as music will grant them. “Like many Turtles before us, we too enjoy sunsets and tasty beverages at the end of a long day,” says the band. “Music is our passion, we are following it to our fullest extent.” The band will kick off the Washunga Days musical acts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 17.

City Council Approves USD 417 Partnership, Assistant City Attorney Appointed

USD 417 Superintendent Aron Dody addressed the Council Grove City Council Tuesday, requesting partnership with the city for a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO) for the district. The possibility of an SRO came about, Dody said, through House Bill 2567, which provides state funds to school districts for School Safety and Security Grants. Dody stated that the SRO would have a presence at all three attendance centers in the district and an office at Council Grove Junior/ Senior High School, where the officer would spend most of their time. The SRO would, according to Dody, aid in educational activities where appropriate and build relationships with the students. The grant funding requested would pay half of the salary for the officer, with the other half coming from the city budget. The council approved the partnership and final approval from the USD 417 Board of Education will be voted upon at their Monday meeting.
