RETIREMENT -- Ray Fowler (center) receives a plaque featuring his Council Grove Police Department badge at his retirement reception Friday. Fowler’s 30-year career in law enforcement — 19 of which were spent as a Council Grove police officer — was honored by CGPD Chief Shawn Wangerin (right), City Council Member Keith Wessel (left), his fellow officers and community members who attended his reception.

Mike Seymour II said he’s lived in Council Grove for 10 years, but a lot of residents either forget or don’t realize it.

DEATH ALLEY -- Based on the true story of the Dalton Gang, Death Alley will be shown at the Gunfight on the Santa Fe Trail 2022 at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 15. Telling the story of the Dalton Gang’s infamous attempt to rob two banks in the same town on the same day, Death Alley shows what happens when the town decides to fight back and things begin to unravel for the gang. Attendees will be able to meet actors and horses from the film, as well as see some of the scenes filmed at the Porter Cattle Company of US-56.
