The Council Grove Junior High School boys’ basketball teams opened their season at home on Monday against Chase County with commanding performances across all three games, earning victories in the A, B, and C contests.

When the Vietnam War divided a nation, it united one Council Grove family in service. Five Washburn brothers, Kenneth, Jose (Joe), Donald (Donnie), Dulan, and Richard, all served in the U.S. military during that turbulent era. Four went to Vietnam; one was stationed in Europe. Their combined service spanned from 1966 through the early 1970s and, for one, into a long career.
